Stevie Ray Vaughan: San Antonio Rose Texas Broadcast 1987
Original Release: 2016 HOBO Records
Reissue: 2018 Vinyl Slab Records
Stevie Ray Vaughan is a guitar legend. He is regarded in the same light as guitar greats Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Eddie Van Halen, and George Harrison. All of whom have gone on to make heavenly music that likely exceeds that of which they did here on earth, which was pretty amazing.
San Antonio Rose is a recording of Stevie Ray Vaughan playing a Texas radio broadcast. His incredible guitar playing skills are on display, as he tears through his best material at the time in front of an audience at The Majestic Theatre in San Antonio, Texas on 1st February 1987. The release is a 2 record set that makes up 83 minutes of scorching blues.
As far as the music goes and the overall performance, it is exceptional. Stevie smokes the guitar, belts out vocals, and energizes the crowd like he did on so many occasions throughout his very short lifetime. The performances included on this release are from the earliest part of the Live Alive tour. Stevie plays and sounds refreshed and enthusiastic about his future, as is evidence by this potent and sober performance.
Regarding the pressing, it is exactly as advertised, a recording of a radio broadcast. Mixing, mastering, and the sound stage are limited. This is not an audiophile pressing. The pressing is as raw and untamed as Stevie was on February 1st, 1987. Expect pops, cracks, noise, and broadcast radio recording quality.
However, if you are a SRV fan and can't get enough of his live music, then this is a must have. It's not polished, but neither was Stevie. What you will get is Stevie at his best!💰
