Bill Withers: + 'Justments

Bill Withers became a legendary soul singer with the release of his first album Just As I Am. The album contained the single "Ain't No Sunshine", which went on to become a timeless classic. His follow up album, Still Bill, which included the song "Lean on Me," cemented his position as an R&B paragon. While +'Justments did not contain an iconic song like his previous two releases, however, the album is consistently soulful and stands as an album that many have overlooked, only to find it one day and regret that they did not find it sooner.

Music club Vinyl Me, Please (VMP) reissued + 'Justments as a part of their Classics Series in 2021. Cut from original tapes by Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound, the record was packaged in a tip-on sleeve with a black obi strip and pressed on 180g black audiophile vinyl at Quality Record Pressing (QRP). The album includes exclusive listening notes written by Briana Younger.

Ryan K. Smith, QRP, and VMP deserve credit for producing a very solid reissue. Bill Withers' voice shines through with such clarity and presence that it is hard to imagine a better pressing of this album exists today. While the vinyl production could have been better, creating a more silent experience, the record is very detailed and lively. The hi-hat rings through as if it is in the room. The piano, bass, and string instruments are rich and full. Most notably, Wither's voice is as clear as day. If you're a Bill Wither's fan, a fan of soul and R&B, or simply have an appreciation for great vocals, this release is recommend. 💰
